Julianna Milin, Soprano

Emerging spinto soprano Julia Anne Milin is widely regarded as part of the next generation of great Verdi sopranos in the Golden Age tradition. Hailed as a “powerful,” “big, glorious” voice with a “strong top,” her performances in the US, New Zealand and Europe have been categorized as “world-class.”

Most recently, she brought New York audiences to their feet at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, among other venues, with her renditions of Amelia (Un ballo in Maschera), Abigaille (Nabucco), Sieglinde, Erste Dame and Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos).

2015 marked her debut as Tamara in the Philadelphia premiere of Rubinstein’s Russian opera The Demon. The year before, Ms. Milin had made her German debut as part of the Lotte Lehmann Sommerfestival, where her “impressive performance” of selections from Der Widerspenstigen Zähmung, Norma, La forza del destino, Ariadne auf Naxos, Ernani, Il trovatore and Mefistofele (Boito) earned her “thunderous applause,” as recounted by the press.

A versatile musician and actor, Ms. Milin enjoys taking part in the creation of new works, as well as in concert repertoire and opera for the screen. To this end, she has collaborated in NYC with the Bleecker Street Opera Composers Forum, singing various roles in new operas, and took part in Pacific Opera’s collaboration with Engel Entertainment, featuring both live and filmed-on-location performances that were aired on cable television in the US and internationally. In New Zealand, her performance opened the prestigious Whakatane Summer Arts Festival of 2013, earning her great praise from the local press.

Additional roles include Desdemona, Giulietta, Giorgetta, Manon Lescaut (Puccini), Donna Anna, Contessa, Leonora (Il trovatore), Aïda, Tosca, Arabella, Marschallin and Rachel (La Juive).

A native of Brooklyn, NY, Ms. Milin grew up playing the violin, attending LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts and the Mannes School Preparatory Division. She holds degrees from Indiana University, and received further training from the Lotte Lehmann Akademie, Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and the Crittenden Opera studio in Boston and New York.
